Kenya 7s national team; Shujaa kept their fine form going as they outclassed noisy neighbors Uganda 29-7 in their second HSBC Challenger Series match that was played in Dubai on Friday at the Sevens Stadium.
Shujaa were coming from a stunning 41-0 victory over Mexico in the opening match.
They settled fast into the game, and a series of passes saw the ball fall into Nygel Amaitsa’s hands.
The youngster raced clear to score his second try of the tournament, which was Shujaa’s first in the game. The try saw the handful of Kenyan fans in the venue break into an amazing dance.
It also served as a wake-up call for the Ugandans who responded with a five-pointer thanks to Adrian Kasito’s electric speed.
He converted his try to see Uganda take the lead and a two-point advantage over Kenya.
Their joy was however short-lived as they lost the ball forward after enjoying impressive possession.
The infringement earned Shujaa a scrum from which speedster Patrick Odongo went over the line in the end, regaining the lead for his side heading to the break.
Kevin Wambua’s charges came out guns blazing in the closing half, scoring 17 more points to humiliate the Ugandans.
Amaitsa raced over for his brace and this time captain Tony Omondi managed the conversion to send the crowd to cheers.
KCB Rugby’s player Festus Shiasi came into the try-scoring party after dancing through Uganda’s defense to add the advantage for the dominant Shujaa.
He was powerful enough to outclass two Ugandan players who tried to force him to touch, calling for the intervention of the Television Match Official (TMO) who ruled his try as rightful.
The Kenyans were not done. In the final minutes of the closing half, Kevin Wekesa outpaced his opponents to score at his usual corner. His teammate Brian Tanga missed the conversion but Kenya had already inflicted damage on Uganda.
Shujaa are scheduled to lock horns with Germany on Saturday, January 13 at 12:59 pm in their final pool match.
