USA managed to beat Kenya 24-21 in the group stages but Shujaa got their revenge in the 5th place semifinal
A near perfect performance in the 5th place semifinal saw Shujaa get a sweet revenge over the USA as Kenya dominantly swept aside the Mike Friday coached team 0-29 in the match played on Saturday afternoon at the Sevens Stadium in the Dubai 7s II Tournament.
In the domineering performance, Anthony Omondi opened his try scoring account at the World Rugby Sevens Series as he bagged a brace with Alvin 'Buffa' Otieno, Jeff Oluoch and Johnstone Olindi contributing to the romping victory that secured passage to the 5/6th playoff match against Great Britain.

Straight from kickoff, ill-discipline threatened to cost Shujaa as they were reduced to six men following Olindi’s failed attempt to intercept the ball from USA.
Fortunately, there was no harm done with the yellow card as Oluoch made a huge tackle on Carlin Isles to immediately win back possession for Kenya on the ruck. After masterminding the turnover, Oluoch followed through the play and got himself the opening try of the game as he touched down at the corner. Kenya taking a 0-5 lead after a missed conversion.
Olindi then redeemed himself after serving his momentary suspension when he managed to cleverly steal the ball from the USA before running half the field’s length in getting Kenya’s second try that was successfully converted for a 0-12 half time scoreline.

Upon second half’s resumption, Kenya picked up where they left as a clever offload from Olindi put Buffa straight through for the third try that was successfully converted and extended the lead to 0-19. Mwamba’s Omondi then got in the scoring act as he landed a two minute brace to see out the 0-29 victory for Kenya.
Following the win, Kenya will now face Great Britain in the 5th place playoff at 1603 EAT.
