The team will be hoping to close the ten point difference between them in 13th and 11th place which is a safety spot.

The men’s national rugby 7s side, Shujaa, have been handed a precious chance to fight their relegation battles after landing the USA, France and fellow relegation threatened Uruguay in pool C of the upcoming ninth outing of the 2023 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series set to take place in Singapore from 8-9 April.

The favourable draw on paper is an opportune chance for the Damian McGrath currently coached side to acquire as many points as possible to boost their slim chances of avoiding relegation as they currently sit in 13th place – one of the three relegation playoff spots – on 30 points, ten behind Spain who are in 11th position which is a safety spot.

Shujaa go into the memorable Singapore 7s, where the team won its first and only main cup title back in 2016 under the stewardship of the late Benjamin Ayimba, riding low on confidence after finishing last in the just concluded Hong Kong Sevens where the team lost all of its five matches both in the group stages and the classification ties.

The team will also be hoping for a chance to make the main cup quarter finals for the first time this season when they descend in Singapore over the weekend.

France, who have already qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics courtesy of being hosts, are currently in fourth place while USA and Uruguay are 9th and 12th respectively on the standings.

In Pool A, Series leaders New Zealand, fresh from victory in Hong Kong will battle against South Africa, overall defending champions Australia and Hong Kong.

Pool B has Fiji, Spain, Samoa and Canada while Pool C sees Great Britain facing Argentina, Ireland and bottom placed Japan.
