Shujaa land group of death in Singapore 7s

The men’s national rugby 7s side, Shujaa will have to work magic in the next HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series outing if they are to have any chance of getting out of the group stages for the very first time this year having failed in the two attempts so far.

This is after the team landed in the group of death in the upcoming Singapore 7s where the Innocent Simiyu-coached side were drawn alongside red hot South Africa, the USA and Canada in Pool A.

The Blitzboks are the current Series leaders and are backed by their 34-match winning streak that is the joint second-best in the history of the sport and would take some stopping for Shujaa to bring that run to a halt. USA have also in recent times proved to be a tough nut for Kenya to crack.

In Pool B, Seville 7s finalists Australia have been drawn alongside England, Spain and a Samoa side expected to return back to the fifth outing of the season after missing the opening rounds due to Covid-19 challenges.

Pool C also sees Olympic bronze medalists Argentina face-off with Scotland, Wales and New Zealand. New Zealand are also expected to make a return after missing the 2021 World 7s Series and the opening four rounds in 2022.

Olympic champions Fiji are also expected to make their comeback in Singapore after missing the Spain legs due to Covid-19 logistical challenges as well. They are drawn alongside France, Ireland and Japan in pool D.

Teams have a long while to prepare as the Singapore events kick off on 9-10 April. The Vancouver and Los Angeles 7s were supposed to take place on 26-27 February and 5-6 March respectively but the two events were moved to April and August.
