Shujaa headline what has already been dubbed the “group of death,” where they will face: South Africa Sevens, Australia Sevens, and Great Britain Sevens.
The draw presents a significant test for the Kenyan side, especially coming off a mixed outing at the Hong Kong 7s.
In Hong Kong, Shujaa showed flashes of promise but struggled for consistency.
They opened their campaign with a 14-5 loss to Australia before falling 28-12 to New Zealand Sevens.
However, they bounced back with a 17-10 win over USA Sevens to progress as one of the best third-placed teams.
Their quarterfinal clash saw them narrowly edged out 26-22 by South Africa in a tightly contested encounter.
Shujaa would, however, finish on a high, defeating France Sevens 21-7 to secure seventh place.
Elsewhere, Pool B brings together Argentina Sevens, New Zealand, Uruguay Sevens, and Germany Sevens, with Argentina and New Zealand widely tipped as early favorites.
Pool C features hosts Spain Sevens alongside Fiji, France and USA in what promises to be another tightly contested group.
In the women’s competition, traditional powerhouses New Zealand Women’s Sevens headline Pool A, where they will face Japan, Brazil, and Argentina.
Pool B pits Australia, USA, Fiji, and South Africa in a highly competitive lineup, while Pool C includes France, Canada, Spain, and Great Britain.
