Innocent Simiyu’s charges, who finished second at Madrid Sevens last month, will renew rivalry once again with Argentina - who beat them thrice in the Spanish capital - France, Canada, Japan, Chile and neighbouring Uganda. According to Simiyu, the eight-team round-robin competition will be a perfect outing to polish on areas that have proved to be an Achilles heel so far.
“I expect good performances from my squad both individually and as a team in executing our attack and defense patterns. Our key focus on this tour is a 100% execution on the first two phases of play. Hopefully, with a good performance from the team, we should be able to improve on the Madrid results and win a tournament in Dubai,” Simiyu is quoted in the People Daily.

Kenya Lionesses, on the other hand, will be hoping to build on their Madrid showing when they play concurrently with the men. After blowing hot and cold in Spain by finishing last in the first tournament of the Madrid sevens, the Felix Oloo-coached side put in strong performances to finish as runners up in the second edition of the tournament.
“We have worked well on the areas we felt needed attention and we have changed a few things that did not work well in Madrid,” the coach stated.
Lionesses face powerhouses, Canada, France, USA, Japan and Brazil. The invitational Emirates Cup has been organized to help teams in their Olympic preparations and will see fourteen teams battle it out over two weekends.
