Shujaa are currently in 13th place on the standings having collected 16 points from the opening four games.
The men’s national rugby 7s side Shujaa have another difficult task awaiting them in the fifth outing of the 2023 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series set to be held in Sydney this coming weekend 27-29 January as they were drawn against current Series leaders New Zealand, giants South Africa and a tricky Uruguay in Pool B.
Having not made it to any main cup quarter final so far, the Damian McGrath currently coached side have their work cut out as they continue with their fight to avoid relegation in the 2023 season.

Currently sitting in 13th position on the log on 16 points, the team will be looking to take advantage of their best result so far where they finished in tenth place in the Hamilton 7s in New Zealand this past weekend after 15th, 11th and 13th place finishes in the opening three outings.
In the other groups, Pool A sees Hamilton winners Argentina drawn with hosts Australia, Great Britain and Canada.
USA, Ireland, Samoa and Spain will compete in Pool C while double Olympic champions Fiji will be looking to return to form when they face France, Tonga and Japan in Pool D.

The 2023 Series is shaping up to be the most competitive in history with the prize of Olympic Games Paris 2024 qualification on offer for the top four women’s and men’s teams in the 2023 Series standings, while hosts France have pre-qualified for next summer’s pinnacle event in the nation’s capital.
The stakes couldn’t be higher at the bottom end of the men’s Series this season as well. Following the penultimate event in Toulouse, the 15th ranked team will be relegated to the 2024 Sevens Challenger Series while the 12th through 14th ranked teams will face off against the Sevens Challenger Series 2023 winner for the 12th and final position on the 2024 Series.
