Championship side Nondies knocked Oilers out of the tournament.

Menengai Oilers head coach Gibson Weru is not ringing the alarm bells after his side were bundled out by Nondescripts in the Impala Floodlit Tournament noting that there were plenty of positives from the game.

Nondies who suffered relegation to the Championship last season deservedly beat Oilers in the Floodies semis to book a date with KCB RFC in the final slated for Saturday 12 November.

Weru who was missing a number of his key players who were on duty with Kenya 7s and 15s was not bothered by the defeat to Nondies.

“Despite the defeat to Nondies, I’m not worried at all. There are a few things we are trying to build as we progress into the season.

We had a patched up backline and different combinations in the front row, it is however not an excuse for us winning. I’m trying to look at different things,” said Weru.

Oilers are coming off an outstanding season where they finished runners up in the Kenya Cup and lifted the National Sevens Circuit.

The former Nakuru RFC head coach went on to list the positives he picked up from the Nondies loss that will aid in next season’s preparations which kicks off on Saturday 26 November.

“There were so many positives from the game, we attacked extremely well, we found space and defended much better, we made tackles, got off the line aggressively but our discipline was a bit wanting.

I’m very encouraged with what I have seen, I got a lot of information from the tournament with regards to what we need to do before the start of the season,” added Weru.
