The Bankers fielded a star-studded squad that combined experience, physicality, and flair across the park.

At fullback was the dependable Darwin Mukidza, while Isaac Njoroge and Jacob Ojee started on the wings. In midfield, Vincent Onyala partnered Peter Kilonzo at center, while Johnstone Olindi and Samuel Asati controlled play as the halfback pairing.

The front row featured Oscar Simiyu, Griffin Musila, and Patrick Ouko. In the second row were Nick Ongeri and Oliver Mangeni. The back row had Steve Wamai, Andrew Amonde, and Rocky Aguko.

The replacements bench consisted of James Ochieng, George Gichure, Nelson Nyandat, Brian Munyali, Felix Ojoo, Michael Wanjala, Shaban Ahmed, and Levy Amunga.

Five years later, Mozzart Sport traces where the title-winning stars are now.

Darwin Mukidza

Mukidza remains one of the most respected backs to have played for KCB and the Simbas in the modern era. The versatile winger-cum-fullback retired from international rugby in March 2023 after an eight-year journey with the Kenya Simbas, having debuted against Portugal in 2015.

Following his retirement, he briefly ventured into coaching at KCB before joining Nondescripts RFC as the current backs coach.

Isaac Njoroge

Njoroge is among the few survivors from that title-winning squad still actively turning out for KCB. Initially deployed on the wing, he has since transitioned into the fullback role after Mukidza’s retirement and has grown into one of the senior figures in the side.

His experience and versatility continue to make him a crucial asset to the club, and he is expected to play a key role once again in KCB’s pursuit of another Kenya Cup title.

Vincent Onyala

The powerful center has continued to establish himself as one of the most dependable midfielders in Kenyan rugby. Onyala has remained active with KCB while also earning regular call-ups to the Shujaa setup.

He captained Shujaa before George Ooro and Samuel Asati took up the roles.

Peter Kilonzo

Kilonzo enjoyed an illustrious rugby journey that saw him captain the Simbas to Elgon Cup victory in 2019 under coach Paul Odera. He retired around 10 months ago after years of service to both club and country.

However, his contribution to KCB did not end there. The former center has since transitioned into the technical bench, where he now serves as the club’s Performance Analyst and Defense Coach.

Jacob Ojee

Ojee remains one of the most electric wingers in the country. While he is yet to announce retirement, Ojee has constantly taken up coaching roles in the club, including the Safari 7s and the Enterprise Cup quarterfinal match against Uganda’s Stanbic Bank Pirates.

Johnstone Olindi

The talented fly-half relocated to Canada in 2023, where he joined Westshore RFC in Vancouver. Known for his calmness and game management during his time at KCB, Olindi quietly moved abroad and has largely maintained a low profile since leaving Kenya.

Samuel Asati

Asati has grown tremendously since that 2021 triumph and is now regarded as one of the finest scrum-halves in the country. The speedy number nine remains a key player for KCB while also serving as co-captain of Kenya Sevens.

Oscar Simiyu

Simiyu is still an active member of the KCB squad and remains one of the most experienced forwards at the club.

The prop had been enjoying a brilliant season before suffering a knee injury during KCB’s clash against Kenyatta University Blak Blad. The injury disrupted his momentum and has kept him out of action in recent matches, but he remains highly influential within the squad.

Griffin Musila

After his stint with KCB, Musila landed a job opportunity in Israel before later returning to Kenya. However, he has not featured competitively for the club since making his comeback to the country.

While there has been no formal retirement announcement, many within rugby circles believe the former forward quietly stepped away from the game.

Patrick Ouko

Ouko remains active and continues to provide depth and experience in KCB’s front row. The prop recently featured during KCB’s emphatic 60-7 victory over Blak Blad in the Enterprise Cup quarterfinals.

Nick Ongeri

Ongeri has since retired from active rugby and transitioned into the corporate sports management world. The former lock, who formed a solid second-row partnership with Mang’eni during KCB’s dominant years, is currently the sports coordinator at Equity Bank.

Oliver Mangeni

Mang’eni officially retired from rugby at the end of the 2022 Kenya Cup season after dedicating 12 years to KCB Rugby. Having joined the club in 2010, he walked away with five Kenya Cup titles to his name.

After retirement, he briefly coached KCB during the 2024/25 season before parting ways with the club. He is now the lineouts coach at Kenya Harlequin.

Steve Wamai

The hardworking flanker has since ventured into the corporate world and is currently working as a Prop Trader at FTMO. While he has maintained a relatively low profile since leaving rugby, Wamai remains remembered for his aggressive defensive work and tireless performances in KCB’s back row during their successful era.

Andrew Amonde

Amonde retired from playing shortly after helping Kenya Sevens defeat Ireland to finish ninth at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The former skipper smoothly transitioned into coaching and is now one of the most influential rugby tacticians in the country. He currently serves as the head coach of KCB Rugby and the Kenya Sevens Strength and Conditioning coach.

Rocky Aguko

The former number eight retired from active rugby last year after years of service to KCB. Aguko has since moved into team management and currently serves as the KCB Rugby team manager alongside Sunlight Mulama.
