Riadha House has served as the administrative hub of Athletics Kenya for decades, having been developed alongside the construction of Nyayo National Stadium in the 1980s.

Over the years, it has been synonymous with Kenya’s dominance and global success in athletics.

However, the federation is now looking to the future, with an ambitious project already underway to establish a modern headquarters on a 20-acre parcel of land in Kasarani.

Tuwei disclosed the plans on Thursday morning at State House, Nairobi, during a ceremony held in honour of world marathon record holder Sabastian Sawe, who made history in London over the weekend.

Outlining the vision, Tuwei emphasised the need for a larger, more modern facility to meet the federation’s growing demands.

“We want to move from the congested Riadha House to Kasarani, where we are building a facility on a 20-acre piece of land. We have collected Ksh 237 million to begin development,” said Tuwei, who also serves as World Athletics Vice President.

He further appealed for government backing to help bring the project to fruition, stressing its importance to the country’s athletics ecosystem.

“Your Excellency, we will be knocking at your door for support as we embark on this project to give athletes a home,” he added.

President William Ruto, who presided over the event, paid glowing tribute to Sawe for his historic achievement, describing it as a landmark moment not only for Kenya but for the world of sport.

“What Sawe achieved is not merely a sporting triumph, but a defining moment in the history of human endurance,” Ruto said.

“Future generations will look back on 26 April 2026 as the day a man broke through physical and psychological barriers long thought insurmountable, and the name forever attached to that moment is Sabastian Sawe.

“We commend him not only for his extraordinary patriotism, but for emphasising Kenya's status as the true home of distance running excellence, and for being one of our finest ambassadors by presenting the very best to the world,” he added.
