The Standard Chartered marathon champ was pulled out of the team to the World Championships in Birmingham
Kenyan marathoner Purity Changwony has been provisionally suspended for the presence of two substances - 19- Norandrosterone and Triamcinolone Acetonide, the Athletics Integrity Unit stated on Friday afternoon.
The provisional suspension now takes the active number of Kenyan athletes serving doping-related suspensions to 67.
In the press release on their Twitter page, AIU also announced that the suspension had been backdated from 28 July 2022 - a similar timing to when she was pulled out of the Kenyan travelling team to last year's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK due to doping issues.
Changwony had initially been named in the women's marathon team to the 2022 games before being left out together with her compatriots in the long-distance race; Ibrahim Mukunga Wachira, Stella Barsosio and Kumari Taki.

Earlier that year, Sierre-Zinal mountain race winner Martin Kagongo and 2019 Boston marathon champion Lawrence Cherono had been flagged from the team heading out for the World Championships marathon in Eugene for presence of Triamcinolone Acetonide and Trimetazidine.
Changwony holds a personal best of 2:22:46 that she set in the Xiamen Marathon and Tuscany Camp Global Elite Race in Siena, Italy on April 11 2021. Her recent race came in the Volkswagen Prague Marathon on May 8 2022 - finishing second with a time of 2:25;11.
The 33-year old made her marathon debut in 2019 when she won the Standard Chartered Marathon with a time of 2:30:34. She also won the 5000m title in the Nakuru KAA meeting in 2005.
