She has moved ten points ahead of Yavi in the Diamond League standings

A personal best (PB) time of 8:53.37 to win the women's 3000m steeplechase at the Paris Diamond League (DL) does not begin to quench the thirst for quick times for Olympic and World bronze medalist Faith Cherotich

Instead, the world leading time, her third of the season, in addition to making her happy, has ignited the urge to lower her PB further, and she believes she has some work to do to get there.

Moments after beating the 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion, Uganda's Peruth Chemutai, Cherotich said: "I am happy to have run a PB. It was not an easy race as I felt the pace get quick right from the beginning and I knew if I stuck to it I could get a PB.

With Peruth ahead I just had to follow her and after a few laps on that pace I got confident enough to take lead and I knew I could manage the race and win."

Cherotich is in the shape of her life. She has enjoyed a spectacular start to her season, twice seeing off Olympic and World champion Winfred Yavi.

The former World U20 champion delivered a stunning performance to win the Oslo DL in a meet record time of 9:02.60 on Thursday, 12 June in Norway.

The victory saw her shave over two seconds off her Doha winning time of 9:05.08.

She came to Paris looking to extend her lead in the DL standings, where she is ahead by a point. Yavi, not in action in Paris, is second on seven points before last night's exploits. She is now 10 points ahead of the Kenyan-born Bahraini, Yavi.

But that's not enough, she still wants to get better, achieve more.

"This is a massive confidence boost and while I pray that I run well in the next race. Everyone is in good shape and you never know what could come next. I need to prepare my mind, go back to training and see where I am not good and work on that and run well in the next race," she added.
