The 29-year-old will come up against a number of big-hitters at the Red Star Macalline Xiamen Meeting in China, which will be held at the Egret Stadium.

Already off to a busy 2026, the Kenyan will seek to get over the hump in the 1500m event, when she faces off with the trio of Ethiopia’s Birke Haylom, World Championships bronze medallist Jessica Hull of Australia, and her compatriot Linden Hall.

Ewoi, whose personal best in the distance is 3:54.92, is third-fastest in the field, in a race that will also constitute her fourth appearance in a Diamond League meeting.

The former multiple NJCAA champion at Campbell University made her Diamond League debut last year in Rabat, before running at the 2025 Prefontaine Classic, and last week making a big effort at the Shanghai/Keqiao meeting in China.

In the latter, Ewoi, having had a bright start in the opening laps, faded to finish fifth in the 1500m, with a time of 3:57.74.

Taking the win on the day was the aforementioned Haylom, who clocked 3:55.56, while Saturday’s other opponents Hull and Hall were sixth and 10th respectively, timing 3:57.91 and 3:58.96.

Haylom, a former World Cross country silver medalist, is no stranger to the Diamond League stage, having made 19 appearances in the women’s 1500m, mile and 5000m since her series debut three years ago.

Her meeting record in Keqiao last week was surprisingly just her second ever Diamond League win, and her first since victory in the mile in Oslo in 2023.

Ewoi will no doubt have a battle on her hands.
