Omanyala continued his impressive start to the 2026 season after clocking a blistering 9.94 seconds to win the men’s 100m in a star-studded field that included Letsile Tebogo, Akani Simbine, and Christian Coleman.

The Commonwealth Games defending champion also exacted revenge on South African Gift Leotlela, who had edged him at the opening leg of the season in Shanghai last week.

Following his dominant performance in Xiamen, Omanyala walked away with the top cash prize available at the meet after the men’s 100m was classified under the prestigious “Diamond+ Discipline” category.

The Diamond League operates under two prize-money structures: the Standard Prize and the Diamond+ Discipline category.

Under the standard structure, winners receive $10,000 (approximately Ksh1.29 million), second place earns $6,000 (Ksh777,540), while third place takes home $4,000 (Ksh518,360), with payouts extending down the standings.

However, Diamond+ Discipline events offer a significantly enhanced reward package, doubling the winner’s prize money to $20,000, which translates to approximately Ksh2.59 million. The remaining positions retain the same payouts as the standard structure.

Omanyala’s reward comes after an outstanding start to the season, where he has now won five out of his seven 100m races. His winning time of 9.94 seconds in Xiamen also marked his season’s best.

The strong performances are a clear indication that the African champion is enjoying a resurgence since reuniting with his longtime coach, Duncan Ayiemba, late last year.

After his Xiamen triumph, Omanyala’s busy European tour continues with the Trieste Bronze Meeting in Italy on Saturday, 30 May.

He will then line up at the Golden Gala in Rome on Thursday, 4 June, before concluding the tour at the Dromia Sprint and Relays Meeting in Greece on Saturday, 13 June.
