The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced the ban following a positive test for the prohibited substance Furosemide, a diuretic often used as a masking agent

Kenyan road runner Charles Kipkurui is the latest on the doping list after violating World Athletics' anti-doping rules.

Langat has been banned from competition for two years.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced the ban following a positive test for the prohibited substance Furosemide, a diuretic often used as a masking agent.

Langat, 28, was flagged after providing an out-of-competition urine sample in Iten, Kenya, on August 6, 2024.

His sample tested positive for Furosemide, a substance that can obscure the presence of other drugs.

The AIU confirmed the violation and stated that Langat did not hold a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) for the substance, indicating no procedural errors during the sample collection or testing processes.

The AIU acknowledged that it found no evidence to suggest Langat's actions were intentional, leading to a mandatory two-year suspension.

The AIU’s statement read: “The AIU has no evidence that the Anti-Doping Rule Violations were intentional, and the mandatory period of Ineligibility to be imposed is therefore two (2) years.”

Langat explained the AIU, admitting he took Furosemide after experiencing inflammation since September 2023.

He sought medical treatment in the Netherlands earlier this year and later contacted a doctor on July 31, 2024, for further advice.

The doctor allegedly recommended a four-day course of Furosemide to help alleviate his symptoms, including kidney and adrenal gland support.

Despite his explanation, the AIU imposed sanctions based on the admission.

Langat’s suspension, which took effect on September 11, 2024, follows a provisional suspension.

Since August 6, 2024, all his results have been disqualified, leading to the forfeiture of any titles, awards, and appearance fees earned during this period.

He rose to prominence after winning the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona in 2023, clocking an impressive time of 58:53.

This comes barely days after former U20 African Championships 3000m silver medalist Emmaculate Anyango faced a probable ban after being provisionally suspended for the use of EPO.
