The 23-year-old clocked a personal best time of 13.57 at the Northeast Ohio Open, taking off 0.10 seconds from her previous national record set at the Nyayo National Stadium last year.

Nusra, who also holds the national record in the 60m hurdles, was representing her school - University of Akron - in the two-day meet held at Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex.

She won the race ahead of Kent State’s duo of Gabrielle Hammonds and Andrea Filote, who clocked 13.97 and 14.07 seconds, respectively.

Friday’s performance was in keeping with Nusra’s public pronouncement of wanting to qualify for this year’s World Championships in Tokyo in September.

The qualifying standard for the women's 100m Hurdles at the global championships stands at 12.73 seconds, which she still thinks is achievable.

The St. Francis Rangala Secondary School alumnus won her maiden national 100m H title in 2023 in a Kenyan record 13.87 seconds at the Nyayo National Stadium, before breaking the record again with a time of 13.70 at the Athletics Kenya Track and Field Meeting on 26 January 2024 at the same venue.

On 14 June last year, she lowered it further to 13.67 seconds, and now at 13.60.

“My dream is to become the first East African girl to compete in the hurdles at a global event; that is this year’s World Championships as well as the Olympics in 2028,” Nusra said earlier this year.

The trailblazer also made new ground in the 60m hurdles, lowering her national record to 8.38 seconds during the Mid-American (MAC) Indoor Championships in Bowen Field House, Ypsilanti, Michigan.
