There was a new course record in the women's race as Jelagat won her third half marathon this year
Vienna City Marathon 2023 winner Samwel Mailu opened his 2024 season with a dominant run at this year’s Rimi Riga half marathon to win in 1:00:21.
The Road Running World bronze medalist led a Kenyan sweep as Collins Kipkorir settled for silver in a personal best time of 1:00:47 as Titus Kimutai completed the podium in 1:01:57.
Meanwhile, fresh from winning the Generali Genève Half Marathon a fortnight ago, Judy Jelagat Kemboi was a cut above the rest as she settled for gold in 1:07:13, setting a new course record.
This marks the 25-year-old’s fourth victory this year, third in the distance, having opened her campaign by triumphing in the 10km de Payerne on 3 March in Switzerland. She followed that up with back-to-back victories in the half marathon.
First up was a 1:06:35 win at the Belgian Half Marathon Championships on 10 March, followed by a much quicker race on 5 May to win in Switzerland again, at the Genève event.
Jelagat finished ahead of Ethiopian Dibabe Beyene Debela who timed 1:09:53 as another Kenyan, Agnes Keino came home in 1:10:33 to complete the podium places.
