The Kenya Defence Forces' athlete is also set to relocate to USA owing to her new deal.
The newest acquisition for On Athletics Club, two-time world 5000m champion Hellen Obiri will give the upcoming World Athletics Cross Country Tour event at Eldoret a wide berth.
The defending World Cross Country champion, who was one of the favourites to the 12 February event named after slain Olympian Agnes Tirop confirmed her decision in an interview with Mozzart Sport.
Instead, the two-time Olympic 5000m silver medalist is preparing for her first half marathon of the season Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Marathon.
"Any chance I can compete at home is one I would always take but the RAK half was already planned before the dates for the World Cross Country event were announced.
The two races are a week apart so I will not compete at home. Training for the half marathon is going on well and I look forward to beginning my 2022 in the distance on a high," said Okiring.
Previously set to take place on Friday 18 February 2022, the 15th edition of the gold label race will now be held a day later on Saturday 19 February. The changes were effected following a decision by the UAE government to introduce a new workday and weekend schedule, effective by 1st January 2022.
Obiri, upon the expiry of her contract with Nike last year, signed with Swiss brand On, becoming the first African athlete for the Colorado-based company.
