Sawe, the current marathon world record holder, made history by becoming the first man to run a marathon in under two hours, clocking an extraordinary 1:59:30.
The offer, a fully sponsored four-night luxury getaway dubbed the Champion’s Retreat, will allow Sawe to recover at a premier destination of his choice within Kenya.
KTB Chief Executive Officer June Chepkemei hailed the achievement, noting that it transcends individual success and reinforces Kenya’s global athletics pedigree.
“Sabastian Sawe has elevated Kenya on the global stage, flying our national flag higher at an international platform. London, where this historic feat was achieved, remains one of our key tourism source markets, and such moments resonate strongly with global audiences.
His accomplishment is not only a personal triumph but a testament to the resilience, discipline, and determination that define Kenyan athletes,” Chepkemei said.
She also commended the wider Kenyan contingent that competed at the event, emphasising their collective role in strengthening the country’s international profile.
“We equally congratulate all our sportsmen and women and appreciate the role they play in profiling Kenya as the Home of Champions. Their continued success reinforces our identity as a leading global destination,” she added.
KTB continues to position sports as a cornerstone of its tourism strategy, leveraging Kenya’s athletic excellence alongside its wildlife, culture, and scenic landscapes to attract global visitors.
The board has previously partnered with elite athletes such as Eliud Kipchoge and Faith Kipyegon, with the latter currently serving as a destination ambassador.
“Our athletes, particularly our marathoners, are among our most powerful ambassadors. Their victories place Kenya before a global audience, inspiring millions and enhancing the country’s visibility.
This retreat will also give Sabastian Sawe an opportunity to further connect with his homeland and share even richer stories with the world,” Chepkemei noted.
KTB is also intensifying efforts to align sports with destination marketing, leveraging both local and international events to showcase Kenya globally.
The country is set to host several major competitions, including the 2026 World Rafting Championships in July and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
