Rudisha's world record of 1:40.91 survives but they're getting closer

It was an attempt of David Rudisha's 800m world record from London 2012 but while the field assembled for the Lausanne Diamond League (DL) did not succeed, Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi continues to impress.

The 20-year-old has just become the joint second fastest man of all time in the 800m, blasting a quick 1:41.11 to win at the event.

He ties Wilson Kipketer on the all-time list after he beat Canada's Marco Arop, in a repeat of the Paris Olympics final, who had to settle for second in 1:41.72.

The world silver medalist said is looking forward to the next leg in Silesia, Poland this weekend.

I´m so happy to have run the world lead today in Lausanne, I really loved the crowd, and I hope for the best in Silesia," he said.

Rudisha's world record of 1:40.91 survives but they're getting closer.

Wanyonyi smashed the mile world record at the Road to Records in Herzogenaurach in April after clocking 3:54.06.

Meanwhile, Mary Moraa took the win in the women’s 800m, in a stacked line-up at the Lausanne Diamond League, running 1:57.91.

It was a British 2-3 finish with Georgia Bell and Jemma Reekie clocking 1:58.53 and 1:58.73 respectively.

Elsewhere, Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo showed no signs of championship fatigue in Lausanne, winning the 200m in 19.64 seconds over Erriyon Knighton (19.78), Fred Kerley (19.86), and Alexander Ogando (19.94).
