In the Jamaican trials, Yohan Blake bust out a 9.85 for the victory with Oblique Seville (9.88) and Ackeem Blake (9.93) filling out the podium.
Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has his work cut out if he is to mine a medal at the World Athletics Championships with Jamaicans and Americans posting better times in their own national trials.
The reigning African Championships 100m winner failed to run under the sub-10 barrier in the Athletics Kenya trials on Saturday as he cut the tape at a time of 10.03.
Omanyala revealed that he has some catching up to do if he is to register a better performance against Jamaica and US athletes in the World Championships.
“If you look at how USA and Jamaica performed (in their trials) it will not be easy, now it's all about getting down to business because we have three weeks to go to the World Championships.
Right now it's all about making things better because in the World Championship there is no room for mistakes and make the race a perfect one,” said Omanyala.
The sprinter had however already sealed a place in the World Championships slated for 15–24 July 2022 in Oregon, US before the trials after meeting the qualification time in the African Championships.
Omanyala however reiterated that he is under no pressure heading to the Championships and opened up on his game plan to beat his opponents.
“I'm under no pressure because this is an individual sport, if you put pressure on yourself and you are the one running you will make things very difficult for yourself, it's all about executing the race.
I'll just do the same thing I did in the trials which is to make sure I get out of the blocks very fast, if I leave first he will not be able to catch me,” added Omanyala.
