National Super League (NSL) side 3K FC is preparing to bolster its attacking lineup when the transfer window opens later this month.
The club, in its maiden second-tier campaign, began the season on a high note, leading the standings for two months.
However, a dip in form has seen the Francis Chege-coached team slide to eighth place on the league table.
This downturn has been attributed to a lack of crucial goals, particularly during a challenging five-match period between November and December, where the team managed just two goals.
In 14 matches, 3K has scored 14 league goals, prompting Coach Chege to seek reinforcements.
“We are shopping for two players, both strikers,” he told Mozzart Sport. “The NSL is a physical league. To win games, you need a strong strike force. We must strengthen this department to achieve our targets."
Currently, the team heavily relies on former Transfoc forward Oscar Juma, who impressed with a hat trick on the opening day against Kisumu All Stars but has since struggled to find the back of the net.
In contrast, youngsters Michael Macharia and Glen Githinji have stepped up, contributing eight goals between them.
Coach Chege emphasized the need to diversify the team’s scoring options.
“Most of our goals are coming from unlikely positions and players. We need to ensure their role is to create more opportunities while adding energy upfront. No player from the attacking line will leave; they’ll work together to achieve our goals,” he added.
Assistant Coach Moses Munene, in an earlier interview, echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of improving efficiency in front of goal.
“Our biggest issue has been scoring. The forwards need to step up and take responsibility. We create chances but fail to finish them, and that’s costing us games. The defence has been solid, but we need to address our attack,” Munene noted.
As 3K prepares for the league’s resumption, strengthening their forward line will be crucial in reigniting their title aspirations and maintaining competitiveness in the NSL.
