Sneaky French reporters managed to drag a few words about his future from the man himself

Perhaps nothing has been decided yet. It's the conclusion French press has drawn after speaking to Kylian Mbappe following Paris' win over Saint-Etienne on Sunday. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

The story about Mbappe's future is a long one. There have been twists and turns, false announcements, public rants from both Paris Saint-Germain and Mbappe's alleged future employers Real Madrid. But the story won't be concluded soon. In fact, we've got a new intriguing chapter.

French international scored his 156th goal for the club, equalling Zlatan Ibrahimovic's tally in the second place of PSG's all-time scoring charts. That prompted the natural question of whether he'll now aim to overtake Edinson Cavani, who tops the list with 200 goals. And the reply was encouraging for Les Parisians faithful.

"I only have Cavani left to be the top scorer in the history of PSG. We'll see what happens. Being PSG's top scorer is something special. We'll see what happens."

Being the top scorer of any club is a fine achievement but the question is there will Kylian sign a new contract to remain with the Ligue 1 runaway leaders.

The striker added that he is very grateful for the banners by the PSG fans, who begged him to renew with the Parisian team.

"It is good to have the affection of the fans. We also play for this kind of thing. There is always the part about the goals, the statistics. But leaving a mark on people's memory is part of marking history. I liked it a lot and I thank you for it."

PSG have reportedly offered the star a new contract that would make him the highest-paid footballer on the planet in a bid to keep him at the Parc des Princes.

However, it probably isn't about the money alone. There is a special draw of playing for Real Madrid, the biggest club in the world. However, PSG owners want to take the place as the best in business. To do so, they need their best players to remain and win the most prestigious prize in Europe - the UEFA Champions League. Maybe Mbappe will decide after the return leg of Real Madrid and PSG's last 16 clash next Wednesday.

The Lord of the Rings ended a long time ago, but this saga is still going on.
