For the Harambee Stars defender, the final presents more than just an opportunity to win silverware. It offers a chance to secure a third major trophy in as many seasons and further cement the team’s steady rise.
Cheche was part of the squad that lifted the Mozzart Bet Cup title in 2024 before captaining the side to their historic FKF Premier League crown in 2025. Another victory on Sunday would complete a remarkable run of success.
As the countdown to the final enters its final hours, the experienced defender explained that the team has left nothing to chance in its preparations.
"The preparations have been going well because we have been training for the past two weeks. It is a final, and I know every player knows how important this is to the club and the individual. We are up to it, and hopefully all will go well tomorrow (Sunday)," Cheche said.
A victory over Tusker would see Kenya Police collect silverware for a third consecutive season, a feat Cheche believes would be special for both the club and the players involved.
"A win will mean a third trophy in three seasons because we won the cup in 2024 and 2025, we won the league, and if we win tomorrow (Sunday), it will be great for both the club and players," he added.
The defender believes the expectations that come with representing Kenya Police are clear from the moment a player joins the club.
"Each player who signed for Police has expectations because this is a big club, and it means that you have to at least win silverware every season. We have done it before, and hopefully we can do it tomorrow (Sunday),” he offered.
Standing in their way will be a determined Tusker side eager to end a decade-long wait for the competition's title. The Brewers have not won the domestic cup since 2016 and will be looking to spoil Police's quest for another trophy.
Kenya Police, however, head into the clash full of confidence after navigating a tense semi-final encounter against Bandari. The match ended goalless after regulation time before Police held their nerve to win 5-3 in a penalty shootout and secure a place in the final.
Assistant captain Abud Omar says the team has been meticulous in its preparations, including arriving in Kwale early to acclimatise to the coastal conditions.
"The preparations have been top-notch. We travelled to Kwale a bit early to adapt to the weather. We are grateful that the preparations have been okay and we are ready for tomorrow (Sunday)," Omar said.
The experienced defender also revealed that penalty practice has been a key component of the team's training programme, especially given the knockout nature of the competition.
"We have also been training on penalties even before the Bandari game because we know that from the quarter-final stage we will meet such matches, but at the end of the day, we want to execute the games before penalties,” he continued.
While confident in the team's ability from the spot, Omar insists their focus remains on settling matters within regulation time.
"If it comes to the penalties, we are still ready. But at the end of the day, we know we will seize the game within the 90 minutes,” he said.
As one of the senior figures in both club and national team football, Omar is no stranger to high-pressure situations. He says the occasion does not faze him, choosing instead to focus on delivering for the supporters.
"Pressure is something normal to me because at the end of the day, even playing in the national team, fans come to support, and I consider them my family.
So, there is no pressure on my side. I know how I perform here will make them happy, and what I am thinking about is how to win the game and make them happy,” he disclosed.
The winner of the match will go home Ksh3 million richer and with a chance to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC), while the runners-up will pocket Ksh2 million.
