Sudan forced the game to a conclusion after several players suffered injuries, including their goalkeeper and an outfield player, immediately after the 16th goal kissed the back of the net.

This left Sudan with fewer than seven players on the field, which, according to the official Laws of the Game maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) and used by FIFA, a soccer match may not start or continue if either team has fewer than seven players.

With the game halted due to injury, the massive 16-0 victory will stand, handing Kenya a massive goal difference in Group A that includes hosts Tanzania, Somalia, and Sudan.

The result also broke the record for the most goals scored in a CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship, extending the previous record of 14-0 when Kenya thumped Djibouti back in December 2019.

Brenda Achieng bagged an astonishing five goals in the opening half, with Lindey Weey and Elizabeth Alizeba both notching a brace, while Fleviah Khatenje, Tabitha Wambui, Bevarline Awuor, and Mwanakombo Bakari all found the back of the net once.

Brenda added a 14th goal a minute after the second half restart, while Sudan scored an own goal in the 48th minute as Brenda drilled the final nail in Sudan's coffin in the 54th minute.
