After a long and arduous season, Migori Youth have been crowned 2025/26 National Super League (NSL) champions after a dramatic stoppage-time 1-1 draw against fellow promoted side 3K FC in the final match of the season.

The hosts made a dream start to the encounter, breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute through Afande Kendrick to ignite celebrations among the home supporters.

Buoyed by the early goal, 3K FC dominated the opening exchanges and nearly doubled their advantage moments later through Mark Kithome.

The attacker beat his marker brilliantly but failed to hit the target with his effort.

The hosts continued to pile pressure and came close again in the 20th minute when Ian Owiti latched onto a well-weighted pass from Kendrick.

However, his effort sailed narrowly over the crossbar.

Gradually, Migori Youth settled into the contest and began dictating the tempo in search of an equaliser.

Churchill Otieno nearly restored parity after being released through on goal by Kelly Otieno, but his effort rattled the side netting.

The Migori-based outfit continued to threaten, with Yusuf Ochieng carving out another opportunity.

The former Mara Sugar midfielder danced past several challenges before unleashing a volley that flashed inches wide of the target.

At the other end, 3K FC almost extended their lead through Weston Churchill, whose goal-bound strike forced goalkeeper Victor Kamungo into a superb reflex save.

As the first half wore on, Migori Youth intensified their search for a leveller. Kelly Otieno delivered a teasing ball into the box that found experienced defender Vincent Wanga, but his powerful header drifted narrowly wide as the hosts headed into the break holding a slender 1-0 advantage.

Migori emerged from the halftime interval with renewed purpose and nearly found an immediate response.

Club top scorer and the league's second-highest scorer, Syphas Otieno, reacted quickest to a delivery from Kelly Otieno and attempted an audacious overhead kick, only for the goalkeeper to pull off a fine save.

Five minutes past the hour mark, 3K FC threatened once more through Oscar Juma, but the bulky striker's effort from the edge of the area drifted agonisingly wide.

Migori Youth continued to push forward and came close on several occasions. Substitutes Noah Matias and Godfrey Odira both found themselves in promising positions but failed to convert from close range.

The visitors kept knocking on the door and nearly found the breakthrough when Churchill Otieno combined well with Woodvine Okoth, only for the 3K FC defence to stand firm and clear the danger.

As time ticked away, Migori threw more bodies forward. Syphas Otieno once again came close, but the Kenya U-20 forward saw his effort drift inches off target.

Just when 3K FC looked destined to claim all three points, Migori Youth struck deep into stoppage time.

Second-half substitute Noah Matias rose highest to meet a pinpoint delivery from Kelly Otieno, powering home a header to restore parity and spark jubilant celebrations among the visiting faithful.

The final whistle confirmed Migori Youth as National Super League champions, while 3K FC sealed a historic promotion to the FKF Premier League.

Naivas FC 1-1 Mombasa United

Elsewhere, Mombasa United secured a crucial 1-1 draw against Naivas FC to strengthen their hopes of joining Migori and 3K FC in next season's FKF Premier League.

However, their promotion remains subject to the outcome of a court case filed by Kariobangi Sharks challenging the decision to scrap the promotion/relegation playoffs after the season had already commenced.

Relegation confirmed

At the bottom of the table, Darajani Gogo's fate was sealed despite ending the campaign with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Nairobi City Stars.

The result was not enough to preserve their National Super League status as they were relegated to FKF Division One alongside Mully Children's Family, Mwatate United and Vihiga United.

Nevertheless, Darajani Gogo's future remains uncertain as several cases relating to promotion and relegation are currently before the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) and the High Court.

For now, the club stands relegated pending the outcome of the ongoing legal proceedings.

Other final-day results saw Fortune Sacco draw 1-1 with Kabati Youth, Soy United edge Mully Children's Family 1-0, Kisumu All Stars beat Vihiga United 1-0, and Gucha Stars claim a 3-2 victory over Talanta FC as the curtain came down on another eventful NSL season.
