Last year, he courageously asked President William Ruto to consider promoting winger Boniface Muchiri in the military.
During Police FC end of season awards gala dinner on Tuesday, 7 July at a Nairobi Hotel, Abud grabbed the chance and asked top leadership of the National Police Service to promote some of the players.
The gala was graced by:Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police - Kenya Police Service(KPS) Eliud Lagat and his Administration Police Service (APS) counterpart Gilbert Masengeli.
Omar, who had just been named as the defender of the season, took to the podium and in his speech, made a special request to the two DIGs
“The team is largely made of police officers who have diligently given their all to lift the name of the club and service. If it is possible, I request on behalf of the team that the National Police Service considers promotion for the officers. With the presence of both DIG Lagat and DIG Masengeli, I am sure that our request can be made possible,” said Omar.
Omar went ahead to explain the role that the team has played in swaying public perception of the men and women in uniform.
“Previously, Police were associated with negative publicity but because of this team, they have a better name in the public," he added.
The former Tusker FC defender cheekily, expressed how promotion his teammates would help him, much to the laughter of the two DIGs.
“For the three years that I have been in this team, I have made friends with many police officers. While the seniors may not be available, promotion for my teammates would also mean that I can call them for assistance in case I get arrested,” he joked.
