Gitego completes his switch to the den after three weeks of training with the club
FKF Premier League side AFC Leopards have confirmed the signing of Rwandan international Arthur Gitego from Rwandan Premier League side Marines FC on a two-year deal.
Gitego completes his switch to the den after three weeks of training with Tomas Trucha.
Sources from the den confirm that he has been impressive, and last Saturday he bagged a double during a friendly game against Nairobi United, which Ingwe lost 3-2 to the National Super League side.
"Welcome to AFC Leopards, Arthur Gitego! Rwandese international Arthur Gitego has joined AFC Leopards from the Rwandese side Marine FC on a contract running until January 2026, subject to international clearance,” read the club statement.
Gitego will be the sole foreigner at the den, as the club last year pulled the plug on signing players hailing from outside the Kenyan borders after a number of their former foreign legion took the club to FIFA, resulting in hefty fines and transfer embargoes.
If the player is cleared on time, he will be in line to make his debut against the Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday.
Ingwe will play the William Muluya-led team on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium as they seek their fourth win in a row against a stuttering Sharks team.
Gitego becomes Ingwe’s second off-season signing after the arrival of Christopher Koloti from the Green Commandos. The attacker was acquired from the third-tier side after impressing for the club and during the school games in 2023.
Former Posta Rangers captain Ken Owino is also expected to join the club. Young Green Commandos midfielder Kelly Madada has also been linked with a switch to the Den this transfer window.
Ingwe will be hoping that the two strikers hit the ground running in a bid to move the team up the log. The club struggled in front of goal in the first leg, and it is largely the reason the team was on the wrong end of the log for the better part of the first leg. Three wins in a row have since changed the team’s fortunes, and the club sits 12th in the log.
