Gor Mahia has received a major boost to their preparations for the upcoming Mashemeji Derby after coach Charles Akonnor provided positive injury updates on four players involved in a road accident.

In an incident that took place in the morning of Friday 28 November along outer ring road, four players; Fidel Origa, Austin Odhiambo, Joshua Onyango and Felix Oluoch survived the crash with minor injuries.

The vehicle belonging to Origa and driven by Odhiambo was reported to have developed brake failure leading to the accident that forced the team to cancel their training and visit the quartet at AAR hospital where they were rushed to.

Speaking to the club’s media after their Tuesday training session at the Nyayo National Stadium, Akonnor had some positive news on his stars.

"We are thankful to Gor that the boys are healthy and strong.

The incident happened and amazingly when we went to where the incident happened after changing plans on our way to training, I was surprised that all the guys were well,” said Akonnor.

The four players all joined their teammates in full team training as they continue to sharpen their skills

They were taken to the hospital where they were treated, given two days rest and today is the first time they are back to training.

We are happy it did not warrant anyone staying out of the team and we are all healthy and ready, preparing for the next match,” he added.

Oluoch is Gor Mahia’s top scorer in the league this season with four goals to his name while Odhiambo is undoubtedly the team's main source of creativity.

Onyango and Origa on the other hand have largely been used as substitutes this season.

Akonnor is glad to have them all ready for the upcoming Mashemeji Derby against arch-rivals AFC Leopards scheduled for Sunday 7 December at Nyayo Stadium.

The derby was initially slated for Sunday 30 November but was postponed due to unavailability of a suitable venue.
