Nairobi United midfielder Enock Machaka has named KCB FC veteran Humphrey Mieno as his all-time best Kenyan player, citing the playmaker’s longevity and consistently high-level performances.

Mieno is currently the longest-serving active player in the Kenyan Premier League and is just three years away from completing two decades in professional football, having begun his career at Makahama FC in 2008.

Over the years, he has enjoyed three stints abroad, at Club Africain in Algeria, Azam FC in Tanzania, and St. George in Ethiopia.

Locally, Mieno has featured for almost every major club in Kenyan football.

He has turned out for Sofapaka across three separate stints, KCB twice, Tusker twice, as well as Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, completing a rare cycle of playing for all the country’s traditional giants.

Despite being in what many would consider the twilight of his career, his performances remain remarkably strong.

It is this enduring excellence that makes Mieno the greatest in Machaka’s eyes.

The Nairobi United midfielder described him as an inspirational figure.

“It has to be Humphrey Mieno. He has played for many years and maintained top form, it is really amazing,” he said in an interview with FKF Premier League media.

Machaka, who has previously represented Shabana, FC Talanta, and KCB, also reflected on his personal career highlight.

He singled out winning the Mozzart Bet Cup in June, a triumph that earned Nairobi United qualification to the CAF Confederation Cup. Then competing in the second tier, United stunned Gor Mahia 2-1 in the final at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

“The best moment has to be when we won the Mozzart Bet Cup, it was a good feeling,” he said.

On his favourite opponents to face, Machaka admitted he enjoys playing against AFC Leopards, a team he believes consistently brings out his best performances.

“AFC Leopards. Because I am assured of a good game against them, I would enjoy playing against them.

Nairobi return to action on Thursday with a rescheduled FKF Premier League match against Mathare United in Dandora.
