The Brazilian defender opted for an operation over conservative treatmant

Defender Eder Militao of Real Madrid will undergo surgery this week in Finland due to a muscle injury in his left leg. The Brazilian center-back is expected to be out for around five months, meaning he will miss the upcoming World Cup. Militao suffered the injury during the match against Deportivo Alaves. Although he initially felt only discomfort in his hamstring while attempting a shot from an awkward position, detailed examinations by the club’s medical team confirmed a muscle tear in his left leg.

According to Marca, after a short period of consideration and consultations, the Brazilian opted for surgery. Conservative treatment was also an option, which would have taken about five weeks and allowed him to represent Brazil at the World Cup. However, that approach carried a significantly higher risk of re-injury, so long-term health was prioritized. The operation will be performed by renowned Finnish orthopedist Lasse Lempainen, considered one of the world’s leading experts in this type of sports injury.

In addition to the news about the Brazilian defender, Real Madrid are facing further squad issues. The club announced on Monday morning that Kylian Mbappe has also suffered an injury. The French forward had to leave the pitch late in the match against Real Betis last Friday. Medical tests revealed a muscle injury in his left leg. The club stated that Mbappe’s condition will be monitored, but it is certain he will miss the next league match against RCD Espanyol. The medical team will now make every effort to have him ready for El Clasico against FC Barcelona, scheduled for May 10 at Camp Nou.
