Mathare United midfielder Ellie Asieche believes the club's impressive start to the season is a step towards the ultimate goal of gaining promotion at the end of the season.

The 2008 league champions are seeking to promptly regain their top-tier status after going down in the past season.

Asieche was among the experienced players signed by the Leonardo Odipo-coached side in a bid to bolster the squad's depth as they embarked on their promotion journey.

Following a goalless draw in their opening match against Migori Youth, the slum boys have steadily found their footing with back-to-back triumphs over Darajani Gogo and Mulembe United.

Despite being placed fifth on the log and seven points adrift of leaders Mara Sugar, Asieche is confident the results are a step in the right direction.

"We did not have a good outing on the first day of the campaign, but I am pleased at how quickly we responded and recovered in the next two clashes. The results that we have posted so far are important for us because they set a momentum towards promotion, which is our main objective of the season," he told Mozzart Sport.

He continued, "We have a target as a team, and that is our sole task. We have a fairly balanced squad that is blended with the experience of senior players in the team. I am confident we are capable of getting the job done in our first attempt.”

Asieche is hoping the team makes it three wins in a row when they take on Coastal Heroes on Sunday 15 October at Mbaraki Stadium.
