Attempt number 2: Saudis are after Salah

Al-Ittihad will try to compensate the loss of Benzema and Kante with the Egyptian forward

Cristiano Ronaldo had barely cooled off from all the recent events in Saudi Arabia, and it seems a new explosion is already being prepared. Al Ittihad has been left without Karim Benzema and N’Golo KantE, who made up half the team; however, the Jeddah-based club is reportedly planning a coup in Saudi football with the aim of shaking things up and once again becoming competitive in the race for every trophy. According to transfer expert Santi Aouna, Al Ittihad is ready to offer Mohamed Salah a three-year contract worth as much as 72,000,000 euros next June.

The legendary Egyptian currently earns 23,000,000 euros per year at Liverpool, and his contract expires at the end of next season. The Reds are facing a major challenge, as it is clear they cannot match that kind of financial power, and if they want to keep Salah, they would have to stretch themselves significantly. Should he accept Al Ittihad’s offer, Salah would become one of the highest-paid players in the league.

There are also signs that this story has some substance, as Salah is reportedly more interested in moving to Arabia now than he was before. Al Ittihad had previously inquired about the possibility of signing him but were met with closed doors by Liverpool. The Anfield club had no intention of parting with a player who defined an era for the Reds and played a role in winning every trophy over the past nine years.

This season, however, Mo has been performing at his weakest level since arriving from Roma in the 2017. In 17 Premier League matches, he has scored only four goals. There have also been tensions with Arne Slot, and Salah even publicly criticized the Dutchman after being left on the bench. True, the Egyptian has returned to the starting lineup, but he still does not look like the player from previous seasons. Rami Abbas Issa, the experienced winger’s agent, has already begun initial talks with Al Ittihad, and the first signals are positive. It is not yet known how much Liverpool could receive if the deal goes through, but what is certain is that Salah no longer feels as fulfilled at Anfield as he once did. Perhaps a change of scenery would be the best option for everyone.
