Barca’s worst away record – Oviedo
Reading Time: 3min | Thu. 25.09.25. | 14:30
The Catalans have lost 20 times against Real
When Real recorded a 3–2 aggregate victory over Mirandes in promotion play-off in late June, it was the happiest night in the small town of Oviedo (220.000 people) – they secured a return to La Liga after 24 years. After such a long time without top football, and with a small budget and no stars to sell, Real realized that this year, they will fight for survival and if they manage it, it will be their own ‘Champions League’ trophy. They are already 18th at the table, in relegation position, and have only one win (with four defeats) in the first five rounds of the new season. But tonight they have a favorable opponent coming to town – Barcelona.
Although it sounds strange, statistically, Hansi Flick’s team had problems last time they played in Oviedo. They have faced each other 38 times in the League at Oviedo’s ground. The result? 20 wins for Real Oviedo, 7 draws and 11 victories for Barca. If we look at the 20 teams FC Barcelona has faced the most in league competition— Oviedo is 16th with 76 matches—the Blues have the third-highest winning percentage against the Catalans. First is Real Madrid with a 42% win rate, Athletic Bilbao is second with 32%, and third is Real Oviedo with another 32%.

And yet, the press didn’t even ask coach Hansi Flick about the opponent. The German politely told a few sentences in the opening speech and that was it. All they wanted to know was about Ballon d’Or, when is Yamal coming back and how is Gavi, who received shocking news that he will miss five months of football due to an injury and is in hospital already.
"I don't think it's easy for a young player to receive this news. I woke him up this morning. He was shocked, but there was training and he had to be there early. He was fine, but we have to help him. He's very professional, especially with his attitude; he's top-level. Now with his second injury, he needs to have a lot of discipline and get back into the rhythm. It's not easy, but if anyone can overcome it, it's him" said the Germain.
