Heading into this weekend, Les Gones sit fourth on the table despite losing 2-1 to Toulouse last week, while Lens' title hopes ended on Wednesday as they lost 2-0 to Paris Saint-Germain.

That result interrupted an impressive spell where Les Gones had won four of their previous five matches.

They currently sit fourth on the standings with 60 points from 33 matches and remain in a direct battle for Champions League qualification.

Looking at their previous five games, Lyon scored 10 goals while conceding seven.

Home form has become one of their strongest weapons recently, winning their last three matches at Groupama Stadium, including entertaining victories against Rennes and Auxerre while also recording a clean-sheet win against Lorient.

There are a few concerns in the squad, but nothing severe enough to derail their ambitions. Orel Mangala and Romain Himbert remain unavailable.

Lyon still possesses plenty of attacking quality and creativity throughout the team. Corentin Tolisso has emerged as a major attacking force with 11 goals this season, while Endrick and Afonso Moreira have also contributed significantly.

Moreira and Endrick have combined for 14 assists, giving Lyon dangerous options between central progression and wide play.

Lens travel into this encounter carrying a different mood after their title hopes officially ended in midweek.

They suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain and now occupy second position with 67 points from 33 matches.

Their recent run has been relatively mixed compared to Lyon's.

Across their last five matches, they scored nine goals and conceded seven, managing three wins, two draws and one defeat over six recent fixtures.

Away form has become a noticeable concern because Lens have failed to win any of their previous five away league matches, losing twice during that sequence.

The visitors also enter with some availability concerns. Goalkeeper Robin Gurtner remains unavailable alongside defenders Jonathan Gradit and Soumaila Baidoo.

Offensive responsibility could again fall on Odsonne Edouard, who leads Lens with 12 goals, while Adrien Thomasson has become the creative heartbeat with 10 assists this season.

Recent meetings provide an interesting picture. Lens holds the stronger overall record, winning half of the last six encounters.

Key Pointers:

  • Lens haven’t won in three of their last four games, losing once
  • Lyon have won four of their last five fixtures
  • Lyon posted five wins in eight home league matches against Lens
  • Lens haven’t won any of their last five away league matches, losing twice

As the final whistle approaches on another Ligue 1 season, desperation often beats comfort

Prediction: Lyon to win
