Big clubs looking for Frimpong

Bayer's fullback has a clause of 'only' 40 million

On the field this season, nobody can beat them. And probably won't until the end, as they have only three games left (Europa League final, DFB Cup final, and the last Bundesliga match against Augsburg), but off the field, it's a different story. Although he was among those players who hinted at staying next season when asked, Jeremy Frimpong could be the first to leave the championship-winning Bayer Leverkusen squad. It's no secret that the fleet-footed Dutchman has an exit clause set at 40 million euros, which poses no obstacle for Europe's biggest clubs. What's new, though, is its expiration date. According to German media, interested clubs would have to activate it before the start of the European Championship.

This gives Bayer some hope that they might still be able to fend off the interest. With just a month left until the start of the Euros, it's a big question whether such a big transfer could be completed in such a short time, while many leagues haven't ended yet, and many clubs don't even know who will be leading them next season. For example, Bayern Munich has shown interest, and Max Eberl is reportedly working on convincing the player, but Frimpong wants to know what role he would have in the team. Understandably, such information cannot be obtained until Bayern resolve the issue of their head coach...

For this reason, the club from Munich is currently in a subordinate position compared to the competition. And the competition is far from naive. German colleagues report that Real Madrid would gladly see Frimpong in their ranks as a replacement for the ageing Dani Carvajal, then there's Arsenal, Manchester United, and even Manchester City, who also need a refreshment on the right flank, considering Kyle Walker's age.

The future of Jonathan Tah, however, remains open, but the situation is far more favourable than that of Frimpong. Germany’s Bild reports that England clubs and (again) Bayern Munich are interested in the defender, but that Tah credits his coach Xabi Alonso for the best season in his career. For his part, the Spaniard openly said that he believes that Tah ‘is one of the best central defenders in Europe".
