The United's captain was critical of himself and his teammates after a 2-2 draw
Manchester United looked bad last season — there wasn’t a single aspect that could be described as positive. However, even though the squad hasn’t changed much this June, there’s noticeably more energy in the team. Fact is, they’re playing better — it's visible to everybody. Now, what it’ll look like once the Premier League kicks off… remains to be seen. Still, a better Manchester United should be expected — more focused and direct above all. Yet the team is still prone to dips in intensity, and Bruno Fernandes is not pleased about that. At times during the match against Everton, the Red Devils lacked energy, and that laziness is a thorn in the captain’s side.
Bruno pointed that out:
“The impressions from the tour are positive, but we didn’t want to end it like this. Our approach wasn’t the best — we were a bit lazy. We want to avoid that laziness, because it can cost us at any moment” said Bruno Fernandes.
Bryan Mbeumo made his debut for Manchester United — not yet at full fitness — and while the captain didn’t say much about it, Ruben Amorim did:
“He played well. He needs to understand how to position himself and how to move, but that first touch…The way he controls the ball opens up a lot of space. You can see he’s not in peak condition, but he runs a lot, stretches the team — he fulfilled everything I expected. We can improve with new signings, but as a team, we have the potential to be better even with the players we already have. I’m really satisfied with the squad. This club has a winning culture, and we have to bring it back. It’s not just about having a winning mentality — we need to improve in many other areas as well. A lot of people have suffered in recent times” said the Portuguese expert.
Bruno Fernandes understands the financial issues the club is facing, but he still hopes the reinforcements won’t stop here.
“I’m not here to call anyone out — the club is doing the best it can given the financial situation. But it’s crystal clear we need more internal competition. If we had more quality, we’d improve faster. I hope we get one or two more players.” said the captain.
