Ugandan FIFA-certified safety and security officer Dixon Bond Okello has showered praise on the electrifying atmosphere witnessed at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, during Sunday’s CHAN 2024 clash between Kenya and DR Congo.

According to Okello, the energy and passion displayed by Kenyan fans far surpassed that of other co-host nations, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zanzibar, making Kasarani the standout venue of the tournament so far.
The historic fixture marked Kenya’s debut in the African Nations Championship (CHAN), a tournament reserved for players based in domestic leagues, and also delivered their first-ever win in the competition.
A first-half stoppage time goal from Gor Mahia midfielder Austin Odhiambo settled the game, handing Kenya a crucial 1-0 win, which was also coach Benni McCarthy’s first competitive triumph.
With a sold-out stadium, every pass, tackle, and goal attempt was met with thunderous support from a passionate home crowd, creating a football spectacle that caught Okello’s attention.
Currently in Tanzania, Okello had toured Kenya last week to inspect tournament preparations and came away impressed by the country's readiness. He urged his native Uganda to step up its efforts to match Kenya’s organisational standards and football culture.
Now, following Kenya’s opening win, Okello has once again hailed the boisterous atmosphere inside Kasarani Stadium.
“Moi Stadium Kasarani is UNMATCHED! I’m a proud Ugandan, but I have to admit—Kenyans know how to bring the vibe! No venue in this tournament can beat the energy of this iconic stadium. Kasarani rocks, and the rest follow. Well done, Kenya!”
His remarks come as excitement continues to build. Kenya’s upcoming fixtures against Angola and Morocco have already been sold out, with tickets for Harambee Stars' final group game against Zambia also flying off the shelves. All remaining three matches are expected to witness a capacity crowd.
The Harambee Stars return to action on Thursday, 7 August, against Angola, with a win potentially securing them a spot in the quarter-finals.
