The free-scoring forward was one of the standout performers in the recently concluded NSL season, emerging as the top scorer alongside Fortune Sacco's Elias Mugane, who both completed the season with 22 league goals.
Ombima, in turn, helped Darajani Gogo finish fourth on the NSL log with 62 points, tied with third-placed Naivas FC and only missed the Promotion/Relegation Playoff on goal difference.
The red-hot striker had attracted interest from several clubs within borders, as well as Gogo, who tried to retain him, but Kenyan giants Gor Mahia have once again flexed their muscle and won the race for his signature.
After media reports suggested that K'Ogalo were leading the race to sign him, the forward was seen in Gor Mahia colours on Tuesday, 5 August and was part of the team's first training session under new head coach Charles Akonnor.
The Ghanaian tactician was unveiled together with members of his backroom staff on Friday, 1 August, to take over from Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, who was sent packing together with the entire technical bench after a trophyless season at K'Ogalo.
Gor Mahia have been working around the clock to revamp the playing unit, signing some of the best performers in the league, but struggling to find top strikers locally, forcing them to look to the NSL.
During his unveiling and first interview with the club, the team's assistant coach, Kobi-Mensah Bismark, said that they will be keen to have players who are able to implement their style of play.
“If we see the team and we are okay with every department, then we will start working with them, and so it is not a matter whether foreign or local, but with quality, the players can always execute the plan of the coach,” Bismark told the club's media.
The Ghanaian went ahead to lay bare the new technical bench’s ambition with the 21-time league champions.
“We want to build a very cohesive and strong team that can compete domestically and later in the international arena.”
