Florian Wirtz had a change of heart and will go to England with Frimpong
Florian Wirtz has set the football transfer market on fire with a series of moves involving Europe’s top clubs. Just weeks after informing Manchester City officials that he had chosen Bayern Munich, the Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder told the Bavarians he had changed his mind — and is heading to Liverpool instead. The news was first reported exclusively by Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, and soon confirmed by David Ornstein of The Athletic. Ornstein reports that Wirtz was recently in northwest England looking for a house, suggesting the transfer is close to completion. According to Tavolieri, Wirtz personally informed Bayern's management of his decision to join Anfield.

The transfer of Leverkusen’s best player to the Premier League champions is set to cost 150 million euros. That fee reportedly scared off Manchester City earlier, as it was estimated the total cost — including wages and other expenses — would reach 300 million. The young German will become by far the most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, and their first-ever nine-figure transfer fee. The previous record was Darwin Nunez, for whom Benfica received 85 million. Wirtz is expected to be a major reinforcement in Liverpool’s midfield, which already features Harvey Elliott, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister — making the club one of the top favorites not only to defend the Premier League title, but also to challenge for the Champions League.
Last January, Leverkusen prepared a new contract extension for Wirtz through 2028, but it was never signed — opening the door for interested clubs. Wirtz was courted by Bayern heavily and they held many conversations with his father. Honorary president Uli Hoeness publicly said a couple of times that his great wish is to sign Wirtz, but apparently, the player wants to move from Germany and play abroad. The current president Herbert Hainer publicly confirmed that the deal was off.
"Max Eberl has informed me that Florian Wirtz is probably leaning towards Liverpool. I can't say what will happen with Leverkusen" he said.
