Three more matches are set to be played on Wednesday at the Utalii Grounds and Absa grounds
Kariobangi Sharks have drawn closer to the final of the second edition of the Elite Pre-season Cup after edging out Kajiado FC 2-0 in their second group match played at the M-Pesa Academy Foundation on Tuesday.
The William Muluya-coached side had seen off Posta Rangers on the opening day at the Utalii Grounds and now just need to avoid defeat in their final group match against Sofapaka to sail through.
Steve Omollo and Fredrick Alushula scored the goals for Sharks towards the end of the match after Kajiado managed to hold them for the better part of the game.
First, it was Omollo who scored with a spectacular take from the right side of the attack, which seemed more of a cross than an attempt at goal.
Alushsula then found the back of the net with the last kick of the ball, with referee Meshack Omondi blowing his whistle to signify the end just after the ball hit the net.
In another match played at the same venue, different pitch, Posta Rangers beat Sofapaka 2-0 and keep their hopes alive. The team will be praying that Sharks stutter in their last match.
Rangers took the lead towards the end of the first half from the penalty spot after Patrick Otieno had been brought down in the box.
Lewis Shivachi stepped up to take the resultant penalty and made no mistake, sending the ball at the back of the net.
Sofapaka's substitute Christian Lubulu did not have the best of appearances as he came on to score in his own net, burying the ball from a Brian Otieno's cross.
Following Tuesday's results, Sharks lead Group A with six points followed by Posta Rangers on three points while Kajiado FC and Sofapaka are yet to register points on the board.
