Ouna moved to Rwanda in September, 2021 after parting ways with Mathare United

Former Mathare United tactician Frank 'Furo' Ouna, has been nominated for the coach of the season award in the Hyper Football Awards 2022 following his exploits with Musanze FC in the Rwandese top-flight.

The Kenyan coach will jostle it out for the accolade with three other coaches including former AFC Leopards and Bandari coach Andre Cassa Mbungo currently stationed at AS Kigali. He will also be up with title-winning coach Adil Mohammed of APR FC and Kiyovu's Francis Haringing who guided the team to a second-place finish last season.

In his maiden season in Rwanda, Ouna guided Musanze to a sixth-place finish with 40 points from 30 matches. He had an equal record across the outcomes, winning 10 matches, drawing 10, and losing an equal number.

Ouna joined Musanze in September last year shortly after parting ways with relegated FKFPL side Mathare United after successfully managing to steer them away from relegation then.

So good he has been in Rwanda that he was ranked one of the current four top coaches in the country by Rwandese publication The New Times in April for his tactical prowess having had masterminded wins over revered top club APR FC and forced a point out of Rayon Sport and AS Kigali then.

“The Kenyan trainer is one of the most efficient coaches in the league this season as he has built an exciting team at Musanze FC. He was appointed as head coach of the Northern Province club in September 2021 and his first season was a success. Ouna beat APR FC and recorded draws against both Rayon and AS Kigali. He has guided Musanze FC to eight wins, eight draws and six defeats in 22 games this season as they sit seventh on the league log with 32 points,” an excerpt read.

The winner for the award will be announced on July 30.
