EPL added-time madness: Nine goals in as many games!

Reading Time: 3min | Mon. 29.09.25. | 10:29

In seven out of nine games so far played in the sixth round in England's top tier, teams found the net in the 90th minute or later - nine times in total!

Ever since Gary Lineker uttered the famous sentence, "Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes, and at the end, the Germans always win," in 1990, members of this great football nation have been associated with a never-give-up spirit, persistence, and fighting until the ref's final whistle.

However, after this weekend, all these "German features" could be applied to Premier League teams - at least some of them.

In the nine EPL games played in the last two days, teams scored nine goals in the 90th minute or later! Moreover, the only clashes in which the crowd didn't see this "dying-minutes madness" were Nottingham Forest's 1-0 defeat to Sunderland, in which the Black Cats scored a winner before the break, and Aston Villa's 3-1 triumph over Fulham, as the Villans sealed the deal by the 51st minute.

Everything started on Saturday in the early kick-off, when Brentford stunned Man United 3-1, as the Bees' Mathias Jensen confirmed his team's victory in the 95th minute, while the Red Devils were desperately chasing the leveller.

Nevertheless, that was only the beginning...

The four duels that started at 17.00, following the match at Gtech Community Stadium, brought as many as six late goals!

Erling Haaland finished off Burnley with a brace scored in the 90th and 93rd minutes, delighting all the Fantasy Premier League players, who had been hoping for his significant contribution.

Bournemouth avoided defeat at Elland Road against Leeds thanks to Eli Junior Kroupi's 93rd-minute leveller, while Crystal Palace's Eddie Nketiah knocked out the EPL champions Liverpool in the seventh minute of added time, doing a massive favour to his boyhood club Arsenal.

Despite being 1-0 up at the break, Chelsea lost 3-1 to Brighton at Stamford Bridge, mainly due to Trevoh Chalobah's red card. The Seagulls equalized over Danny Welbeck in the 77th minute, but waited until added time to strike a fatal blow to the rivals. The defender Maxim De Cuyper put them in front in the 92nd minute, while Welbeck completed a brace eight minutes later, scoring one of the latest-ever EPL goals.

Saturday ended the way it started. In the last clash of the day, Tottenham avoided the "guillotine" against Wolverhampton at home thanks to Joao Palhinha's 94th-minute leveller.

Sunday's programme just wouldn't be complete without another dying-minutes goal, and Arsenal's Gabriel Magalhaes took care of it, netting a 97th-minute winner against Newcastle - of course, after a corner kick.

Still, this tally could be further improved, as the match between Everton and West Ham has yet to be played tonight (22.00). So, if Jack Grealish, Iliman Ndiaye, Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen, or any of their teammates find the net after the fourth official lifts the board with added time duration, don't be surprised - it's Premier League's new normal.
