Exit Vihiga United, enter Mulembe United Football Club

The takeover may see the club shift base from Vihiga to Kakamega

National Super League outfit Vihiga United has changed its name to Mulembe United Football Club following a successful takeover effective 15, September.

Vihiga found themselves in a turmoil after they were banned by FIFA from registering new players at the start of 2022-23 season and had to survive on a lean squad coupled with financial constraints.

It is the struggles that forced the top management fetch for solutions and landed at a partnership deal with former Kakamega County Senator Cleophas Malala who offered to take over the club as well as settling all its pending bills including clearing with former midfielder Adefeya Junior.

"We are delighted to inform and notify the public, our ever-loyal fans and the football fraternity that the name of the Club has changed from Vihiga United Football Club to Mulembe United Football Club effective August 15, 2023.

We remain passionately committed to taking our beloved Club to the next level, as enshrined in our vision and slogan. heading to the top: By so doing, our immediate aim is to rebrand our outfit for strategic positioning.

Please be assured that no more changes have been made regarding the nature of our business and operations. We promise to keep you updated on any further changes from

this day forward." read the club statement.

A couple of changes are expected to take effect once the club Chairman Kahi Indimuli jets back to the country.

Sources indicate that the club will shift base to Kakamega from Vihiga County.

Malala will be the club’s patron with Indimuli remaining as the chairman.

James Saisi will act as the Secretary General while Micheal Senelwa will remain as the Chief Executive Officer.

Mulembe start their league campaign with a home game fixture against Kajiado FC on Saturday at the Mumias Complex.
