Field Yamal and don't worry: Barca's gem pulls strings as Spain demolish Saudi Arabia

La Roja needed only the opening 23 minutes to wrap up the job and record their maiden victory at the 2026 World Cup - 4-0
Six days ago, in Spain's World Cup opener against Cape Verde, Luis de la Fuente left Lamine Yamal on the bench, introducing him only after the situation had become worrying. The Barcelona star did not have enough time to work his magic, and La Roja were held to a shock 0-0 draw by the African minnows.
Against Saudi Arabia, the 65-year-old coach showed he had learned his lesson. Yamal returned to the starting lineup, and Spain had no trouble finding the net. In fact, they wrapped up the contest in the opening 23 minutes, scoring three goals and eventually winning 4-0.

La Roja went into the break with a 3-0 lead and, although the Barcelona wonderkid scored only the opener - with Mikel Oyarzabal netting the other two and also providing the assist for Yamal's goal - his impact was evident throughout the first half
His presence on the pitch instilled confidence in his teammates and fear in the opposition, with almost every dangerous attack coming down Spain's right flank.
His job done after just 45 minutes, Yamal headed to the bench.
Aware of the need to keep the teenager fresh and injury-free, De la Fuente withdrew both scorers at half-time. However, Spain continued to torment Saudi Arabia, adding a fourth goal in the 49th minute when Hassan Tambakti turned Marc Cucurella's effort into his own net after Mohammed Al-Owais had made the initial save.
Only then did the Spaniards take their foot off the gas, slowing the tempo and allowing the overwhelmed Green Falcons some breathing room.
Thanks to this triumph, Spain booked their place in the knockout phase, though their clash against Uruguay in the final group-stage round is likely to decide the group winner.
On the other hand, despite the convincing defeat, Saudi Arabia still have a chance to advance, as their match against Cape Verde will be crucial.
The other second-round Group H duel, between Uruguay and Cabo Verde, will be played later tonight (01.00).
