Speaking after guiding Ingwe to a crucial Ingo Derby victory over Kakamega Homeboyz on Saturday, Ambani said the message within the squad has remained consistent to keep pushing.
The former striker praised his players for maintaining belief and composure despite the mounting pressure in one of the tightest title races in recent seasons.
“We knew it would be tough because Homeboyz is a very good team,” Ambani said after the match.
“The message to the players has consistently been to push hard. They have taken that encouragement well and have been giving their absolute all in these matches.”
The victory also carried extra significance for the Leopards, who secured a rare away win over Homeboyz after going three years without defeating them on the road.
Samuel Semo and Emmanuel Lwangu scored for Ingwe before Boniface Nyabuto netted a late consolation for Homeboyz deep into stoppage time.
The result moved Leopards within one point of archrivals Gor Mahia in the title race.
Gor currently tops the standings with 65 points from 31 matches and still has a game in hand against Murang'a Seal, while Leopards sits second on 64 points after playing 32 games.
Ambani admitted the final stretch against APS Bomet and Bidco United will be difficult, but stressed that the technical bench is working to keep the squad mentally focused.
“They will be very tough games, but we are talking to the players to ensure they continue the fight. Now we shift our focus to recovery and start preparations for the next assignments. We just hope everything goes according to plan,” he added.
The title race could potentially be decided before the final day if Gor Mahia wins against Murang’a Seal and follows it up with another victory in their next fixture.
