Ingwe boosted their slim hopes after securing a 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Ulinzi Stars on Wednesday, 13 May at Nyayo National Stadium, taking their tally to 61 points, four behind league leaders Gor Mahia.

Although Leopards’ fate is no longer fully in their hands, Omune insisted the team still believes a late twist in the title race is possible.

We believe that we still have a chance to win the league, even if there are some quarters that do not think so. We will fight until the end by ensuring we win all our remaining matches,” said Omune.

“We will only lose hope the day that it would be mathematically impossible to win and the federation announces a different winner,” he added.

The veteran forward also rallied the club’s supporters to maintain faith as the season heads into the decisive stretch.

The fans have been pushing us throughout the season, and we would like to appreciate them so much and tell them that the race is not yet over. We will hang in there up to the last match,” he remarked.

Omune further welcomed the victory against Ulinzi, acknowledging the challenge posed by a side battling to avoid relegation.

We are fighting for the title and just had to work hard for a win despite them battling relegation,” he noted.

The clean sheet against Ulinzi was also significant for Leopards, who had conceded in each of their previous three matches. According to Omune, tightening up defensively has now become a major focus for the team as they continue chasing the title.

“We realized that we did not have such a good goal difference, and so while we have a good forward line, we had to strengthen our defense, and that is what has resulted in the clean sheets.”
