Jeddah-based Al-Ahli face off with Al-Nassr, fighting for the place at the top
Along with the mighty Al-Hilal and the defending champions Al-Ittihad, the top contenders for the Saudi Pro League title are Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli. Both teams brought some sensational reinforcements during the recently ended transfer window.
Both clubs spent around €200m, and tonight (21.00) in Riyadh, the festival of football stars will be seen on the pitch. On one side, Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, Aymeric Laporte and, on the other, Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez, Frank Kessie, Gabriel Veiga, Alan Saint-Maximin, Edouard Mendy...
So far, the team from Jeddah, which, interestingly, played in the second tier last season, has earned three more points. Cristiano's Al-Nassr started with two defeats, but they are on a steady rise of form with four consecutive victories, so they joined the fight for the top.
They managed to revive Sadio Mane, who's back on track again after a bad season at Allianz Arena. Although Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad are at the forefront at the moment, it would not be a surprise if Ronaldo's team eventually finish the race triumphantly.
Cristiano Ronaldo is a goal machine in Saudi Arabia as well. This season, in five league games, he netted seven times and collected four assists.
