Starlets and Kenya Police Bullets gaffer Beldine Odemba and U15 trainer Jackline Juma are the sole women on the list

It is an open secret that Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) clubs will be managed by tacticians who are holders of the CAF A badge or an equivalent.

Clubs will also be required to have assistant coaches with a minimum of CAF B license or an equivalent heading to the new season.

While nearly all clubs are already compliant, a host are still racing against time to tick the licensing boxes to be cleared for the new term that kicks off late in the month.

According to a list provided by the Football Kenya Federation, there are 49 CAF A badge holders in the country at the moment.

From the list, a good number are attached to local clubs either as head coaches or assistants, with David Ouma being the sole Kenyan working abroad.

The former Harambee Starlets coach plies his trade with Tanzanian Premier League side Coastal Union and there is a possibility of him being joined by former Harambee Stars tactician Francis Kimanzi.

The league-winning coach with Mathare United in 2008 has been linked to Tabora United and it remains to be seen whether he will cross the border.

Former Mathare and AFC Leopards midfielder Edward Seda is probably the youngest holder of the prestigious badge, as he hung up his boots in 2019 and transitioned into coaching.

Seda, who was forced to early retirement by an injury, serves as an assistant to William Muluya at Kariobangi Sharks.

Starlets and Kenya Police Bullets FC gaffer Beldine Odemba and U15 trainer Jackline Juma are the sole women on the list.

Interestingly, KCB FC coach Patrick Odhiambo’s name does not appear on the list. The former Homeboyz coach is believed to have acquired his license in Tanzania.

Given the nature of the Kenyan top tier and how clubs are always quick to make managerial changes, it will be interesting to see the movements coaches will make in the new season.

It also remains to be seen which clubs are yet to comply with the licensing requirements and which ones will hire before the deadline.
