Speaking ahead of their season opener against Bidco United at Kasarani Stadium, the Ghanaian tactician emphasised that winning the majority of their fixtures will be the club’s only route to wrestle the title back.
"To win the league is to win most of our matches. The plan and approach is to gather maximum points regardless of the opponent. That is what will give us the cutting edge to reclaim our lost glory,” Kobi-Mensah declared.
Mensah, who joined Gor Mahia on 1 August alongside former Black Stars captain Charles Akonnor, underlined the importance of domestic dominance, revealing that the club will push strongly for both the league and the domestic cup this season.
"Our target is to compete strongly in every competition, whether the league or the cup. Every match matters, and we are attaching full seriousness to every game we play,” he added.
The 41-year-old coach confirmed that the team has prepared well for the new campaign, despite a few challenges in pre-season.
He, however, disclosed that Harambee Stars defender Sylvester Owino will sit out of the opener due to injury.
"The boys are looking sharp to get the season underway. While our preparations haven’t been perfect, they have been enough to set us up well.
Apart from Sylvester Owino, who is out injured, most of our key players are back and ready. We’ve also studied Bidco in a couple of friendlies and have an idea of what to expect,” he noted.
Kobi-Mensah also turned his attention to the supporters, asking K’Ogalo’s passionate fan base to rally behind the team with the right energy as they aim for a record-extending 22nd league title.
"I urge the fans to come out in numbers and support us. With the right backing and without unnecessary pressure, we believe this team has what it takes to achieve the target. Tomorrow is the start, and we need them behind us,” he appealed.
Gor Mahia will lock horns with Bidco United on Sunday, 21 September at 4:00 pm, marking the start of what promises to be a fiercely contested title race.
